Terry Berg, Past President:The bad news is the invasion of Ukraine and what happens when the world at large does not stand up to a tyrant. The good news is Covid 19 has all but disappeared in the Grand Valley. At the club things are quiet. Ops sessions have been occurring on Thursday nights when we have a dispatcher. The last two weeks were free run Thursdays. Mickey has been transferring data from an old computer to a new computer that now displays our dispatch schematic on two monitors. Tom Jones and I continue with production of rock on the island. Jim Hall does mysterious wiring under the layout deck and Kyle Chesney & Mark Tauber have been dusting cars and buildings. Kaddis Mitchell tries to fix club equipment when he's not fixing member equipment. The G men continue to expand and upgrade the outdoor layout.Generally speaking, attendance is light. We had a great ops night 3 weeks ago with several engineer-conductor teams driving and switching trains on the layout. Since then it's been a few people. We plan to run ops the next 2 Thursdays and then evaluate what should be next. The business meeting had 6 members, 2 board, 2 G & 2 general. Consequently any important discussions or issues were tabled for the April business meeting. Speaking for myself, the lack of member interest is disturbing and brings into question the long term viability of the club for anything but a playhouse. The April business meeting is an important one and general member input is needed. Please mark it on your calendar and plan to attend. Mickey purchased a red light for our gate and with the darkness naturally receding plus daylight savings time Cross Orchards is not that hard to find. As Mickey would say “for the good of the order”.
