Happy New Year to everyone:We have just completed our Annual Christmas show. Financially it came in at about 50% of what we usually do. Of course, COVID affected us, as did the weather. The G Scalers were unable to operate for the majority of the show. However, we had very good support from you, the members. We had excellent comments from the public. They liked and were impressed with our changes, they asked lots of questions, and with fewer people present they felt they could stay longer and move around freely, and they thoroughly enjoyed the scavenger hunts. We picked up four new members and several others wanted to join, but not until January. We had our usual bath of small problems, but nothing insurmountable. We are now in another year and quite a few of you have not paid your dues. Once again, we decreased the annual dues by 50%. The social member dues are $15. The family dues are $30 plus $5 per youth included. Junior members (18 - 21 years old) are $15. Affiliate members are $15.At the end of each fiscal year we do an audit. John Gaarde, Ron Senek and Jim Wilmesher have volunteered to do it this year as soon as they get the needed documents. Additionally, the officers will be putting together a budget for the upcoming year. If you have any specific requests for the expenditure of funds, please give a list to an officer. Cross Orchards has officially been annexed into the City of Grand Junction from Mesa County. Part of this process includes an official inspection from the City. We don’t know when this will occur and what the new requirements will be. We have some idea and are working towards those known issues we may have.We also had a good turnout for our annual Christmas Party. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves while visiting with others. The food was good and the staff did a great job. However, the facilities were not the best. While the weather is not the most conducive for the G scalers, the rest of us will continue to participate in the clubhouse. This last Thursday was open running. Next week we will have a semi open running session with an overall objective of building trains for the upcoming operating sessions. Private equipment may be run, but club-owned locos and rolling stock cannot be moved unless you are helping set up ops. On January 27, we will have our first operating session.Mickey
